Frequently Asked Questions

How much energy will my window film save?
This varies from building to building, and also depends on the type of window film you go for. However, we can say that if you have a high window to wall ratio on sunny elevations in an air-conditioned building you will save money.

The most obvious source of high temperatures in buildings is energy from the sun, followed by internal heat generated by technology, people and poor ventilation.

The Building Research Establishment (BRE) in the UK reported that 40% of the load placed on air conditioning in offices comes from direct solar gain through windows. Between 1990 and 2000 there was a 60% increase in buildings utilising air conditioning. This number is still increasing. Buildings which are not treated with window film simply allow solar heat in, only then to artificially cool it at unnecessary expense.
Reducing the heat in a building even by a couple of degrees can have a huge effect on the load of air conditioning systems. In some cases window film can reduce the load on these systems to such a degree that it will literally pay for itself within the warranty period and provide a return on investment.

How long does window film last?
Almost all our internal window films are guaranteed for 10 years; and most applications last up to 15 years. After that, we can simply remove it and reapply fresh film. External films vary, however on some new films we can offer up to a 15 year warranty.
Which type of window film do I need?

Please contact us to discuss your requirements. We offer a free, no-obligation survey of your glazing, followed up by a free quotation. We have a vast amount of experience of installing window film, and there are a lot of different options available – we’re confident we’ll find the perfect solution for you. From commercial to domestic properties, dependant on your requirements we offer a variety of solutions, even Conservatory Roof Film.

How do I clean my window film?
Please don’t clean the window for 30 days after the window film has been applied.

After this, most glass cleaners will work well, although a good economical cleaning solution for window film is a few drops of liquid washing-up soap added to 1 litre of fresh water.

Always use fresh clean soft materials to wash and dry your window film surfaces, such as soft cloth or a clean synthetic sponge, followed by another clean soft cloth or soft rubber squeegee for drying.

To avoid scratching the film, do not use bristle brushes, abrasive scrubbing sponges, or any cleaning materials that may have been contaminated with dirt particles. Some brands of paper towels are coarse enough to put fine scratches in the film, even film with its super durable scratch resistant coating. While these scratches may be too thin to be seen at the beginning, they can damage the polished look on the film over time.

What effect does window film have on my houseplants?
Window film does not seem to affect houseplants – indeed some plants are happier and less prone to wilting and burning in hot weather.
What about window film for listed buildings, or other occasions when external appearance is extremely important?

We can apply spectrally selective film. This film is virtually invisible yet still cuts out up to 50% of solar heat. Many types of window film are extremely discreet – contact us to discuss what is available.

Why does my newly-installed window film look watery?
During the installation process, we will remove as much of the mounting solution as possible, although a small amount will remain. Trapped installation moisture can cause small water bubbles and/or a slightly cloudy look. This is normal and will go in time. Do not attempt to pierce a water bubble during the drying-out period as this will damage your film. (This damage is not covered by the warranty.)

The drying-out time varies depending on how warm and sunny the weather is. Don’t worry if it seems to be taking a while to dry out – the trapped moisture will dry out completely. Safety and security window film will always take longer to dry out as it’s thicker.

Drying-out times can vary from a few days to as much as 6 months depending on the type of film used and the weather conditions.

What are the benefits of Filmcote Conservatory Window Film?
Aside from reducing heat, Filmcote conservatory window film will also reduce glare and fading of items that are within the conservatory.
Will it make my conservatory dark?

Are there different shades of film?
Yes. We have a range of films and can advise you on the best glass film to suit your requirements.

Depending on where you live, we may be able to collect your car, apply the window film, and then deliver it back to you. Please contact us to find out more about this service.

Our Domestic & Commercial Happy Clients

We would highly recommend Filmcote to anyone who is looking to achieve privacy to their home.

We are very pleased with the Filmcote we’ve had applied to our 2 bedroom windows.
We were struggling to decide on what we could do with the windows as they are at the front of the house and we are overlooked by passers by & a bus stop right outside.
By applying Filmcote it has enabled us to have the blinds open during the day giving us total privacy.
Everyone who has seen the windows are amazed at the results & how good the product is.

Pamela Brett

The quote was clear and the installation very professional. I am more than happy to recommend Filmcote

Very pleased that I chose Filmcote for our conservatory. Kyle offered several alternatives as we wished a different film to side windows for privacy reasons, and made no attempt to sell anything other than what we wanted or needed.

Keith Turnbull

Really great communication with the office team.

The fitting team were very professional, did a brilliant job and left everything super clean and tidy. The film has made a huge difference to the room. I would absolutely recommend Filmcote.

Louise Jenks

We have nothing but praise for the work and the men who carried it out.

The work was carried out without any problems. It was timed for the two days and carried out in that time.
The men were polite, helpful and courteous.
There was no mess when they finished and all the necessary cleaning and tidying up was carried out with care and consideration.
